Link a parent to a student

Overview

In this section you will learn to how to link a parent to a student account.

Parent management page

To access the list of parent users/profiles follow the steps below:

  1. In the main left-hand menu click “Users”

  2. Click “Parents”


Link an existing student

To link and existing student to a parent you should be on the parent management page (see above).

TIP: Hide synced students

Students synced from PowerSchool cannot have their relationship modified here and therefore will be disabled. In order to edit these accounts you must update the connection in PowerSchool and allow a nightly sync to run before the change will be reflected. Click “Hide Synced Students” to hide these types of accounts.

  1. Click the Open” icon next to a parent you wish to change

  2. Scroll to the bottom of the page to see the “Students” section

  3. Click “Add Existing Student”

  4. In the popup, search for a student by name

  5. Click the Checkbox on the student row to select one or more students

  6. Click Add“


Link a new student

To link a new student to a parent you should be on the parent management page (see above).

  1. Click the Open” icon next to a parent you wish to change

  2. Scroll to the bottom of the page to see the “Students” section

  3. Click “Add New Student”

  4. In the popup, enter the student details

  5. Click Save“

 

Delete a student parent connection

To remove a linked parent from a student in SchoolEngage, there are 2 options:

Parent and Student connected to PowerSchool

If both are connected to PowerSchool, then the connection will need to be managed in PowerSchool.

Find the relevant contact or student, and remove Data Access from the student parent details in PowerSchool by clicking the blue pencil on the contact management page, selecting Data Access and unchecking the Can Access Student Data and Email checkbox before hitting Submit.

This can also be done on the Account Access Page

Parent or Student is not connected to PowerSchool

Parent

  1. Click the Open” icon next to a parent you wish to change

  2. Scroll to the bottom of the page to see the “Students” section

  3. Click the Trash Can” icon next to the student you wish to remove.

  4. In the popup, select yes

Student

  1. Click the Open” icon next to a student you wish to change

  2. Scroll to the top of the page to see the “Parents” section

  3. Click the Trash Can” icon next to the parent you wish to remove.

  4. In the popup, select yes
