Getting Started
Preliminary Steps
Permissions: Before managing district settings, please ensure you have the “District Options” permission located under the “District” section.
To access District Settings: simply navigate to “Settings > District”.
District Branding
You have several options to personalize your SchoolEngage page and align it more closely with your district's brand. For a comprehensive list of what elements can be customized, please see our list of Customizable Elements below.
Customizable Elements
Personalization | Description |

District Name | The title displayed on the home page, above the greeting message and district logo. |
District Logo | The logo displayed on the login and home page. |
Login Message | The message shown on the login page. |
Registration Message | The message displayed on the account creation page. |
Default Greeting Message | The default message on the SchoolEngage home screen after user login. |
Managing your Branding
Begin by clicking the Edit button located at the top of the District Settings page.
Make any necessary changes.
Click the Save button at the bottom of the window to apply your changes.
Custom Greeting Messages
If you want to have a different message for a specific user type, you can use a custom greeting to replace the default greeting message used for all user types.
Note: Each user type can have only one custom greeting message. If there is no custom message for a particular user type, they will see the default greeting.
Adding a Greeting
Begin by clicking Create button located below “Default Greeting Message”.
Select the type of user you wish to apply this message to.
Enter the text you’d like to appear for this user type.
Click the Save button to apply the message.
Editing a Greeting
Click the Edit button next to the greeting message.
Make any necessary adjustments.
Click the Save button to save your changes.
Removing a Greeting
Click the Remove button next to the greeting message.
Click Yes to confirm your removal.
District Options
There are various toggles within the district settings window, below is a detailed list on what each toggle does.
Option | Description |
---|---|
Allow parents to create student accounts | Grants parents the ability to add students to their account. |
Prevent SchoolEngage accounts from being made | Disables the SchoolEngage registration page, preventing anyone from creating a new SchoolEngage account. |
Parent portal username format | Specifies the username format used when creating parent portal accounts during writeback. |
Force authentication through SSO | Requires all users connected to PowerSchool to log in via the access portal. |
Allow independent student account creation | Enables the option to register a SchoolEngage account as an independent student. |
Managing District Options
Begin by clicking the Edit button located at the top of the District Settings page.
Make any necessary changes.
Click the Save button at the bottom of the window to apply the changes.
Security Settings
Security settings provide you with a way to control the level of password complexity when registering a SchoolEnage account. These settings are also used when creating parent portal access accounts.
Setting | Description |
---|---|
Minimal password length | Specifies the minimum length required for the user's password. If no minimum is specified, the default minimum will be set to 8. |
Minimal number count | Determines the minimum number of numeric characters required in a password. |
Minimal letters count | Specifies the minimum number of alphabetic characters required in a password. |
Minimal symbols count | Specifies the minimum number of special symbols required in a password. |
Note: The minimum password length must be equal to or greater than the total sum of specified letters, numbers, and symbols.
Managing Security Settings
Begin by clicking the Security Settings button located at the top of the District Settings page.
Make any necessary changes.
Click the Save button at the bottom of the window to apply the changes.
Address Auto Completion
If you want to enhance your users' experience with address auto-completion using Google Maps, you can integrate your own Google Places credentials.
Managing Credentials in SchoolEngage
Click the Edit button above the Google credentials section.
Add, edit or remove your credentials in the provided text fields.
Click the Save button to confirm your changes.
Please note that this service is not provided by SchoolEngage, and any associated charges will be incurred directly through Google. For more information, please visit the Google Places page.
Upload Mapsource Extension
This section allows you to directly import custom PowerSchool extensions into SchoolEngage. Simply select your .zip
or .xml
file using the "Browse" button and then click "Upload". You will then be able to map form fields to your newly imported extension.

Contact Sync Settings
The Contact Sync Settings allow you to configure which contact information is synced from PowerSchool into SchoolEngage.
How to Enable Contact Sync
Enable Contacts Sync:
To activate the Contact Sync, check the “Contacts” checkbox.Prerequisite for Toggles:
The Contacts checkbox must be selected before enabling any other toggles.
Toggles and Criteria
Contacts
This is the core contact sync, which pulls in contact information from PowerSchool.
Criteria for Contact Sync:
The contact must have at least one active student (enrollment status of
0
).The contact must have a PowerSchool Guardian ID.
The contact must have a PowerSchool Contact ID.
Student-Contact Relationship
This toggle syncs the relationship between students and their contacts from PowerSchool, along with their relationship details.
You can refine the sync by selecting specific flags, such as Active Contacts, Emergency Contacts, or Lives With, to determine which relationships to include.
Communication Behavior: When a message is sent, all contacts associated with a student will receive the message. Note that these flags are not displayed on user profiles.
Example
This setup will pull in:
Contacts
Relationships where the contacts have the at least one of the following flags in PowerSchool:
Active
Emergency
If a contact doesn’t have either Active or Emergency flags, they will be skipped during the sync.
Contact Phones
This toggle will bring in contact phone numbers from PowerSchool
